Leaving The City – Making a Record in the Countryside
While more and more city recording studios are closing, residential music studios continue to keep their doors open, with more emerging even in the past decade as the recording landscape is revolutionised by home recording.
The message we get from artists is clear – they want to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and go to a new destination where they can focus solely on making a great record, using the countryside to inspire new ideas and provoke new thoughts.
City life can be stressful at times – the pace of life, the living conditions and constant feeling of distraction (aren’t notifications the worst?) Sometimes in life, you’ve got to switch the phone off and live analogue for a while – and escaping to the country is one of the best ways of doing that.
As a countryside studio set in the heart of the Ribble Valley, we pride ourselves on having the best of both worlds – a high class SSL recording studio to compete with a big city’s best offering, with the amenities of the local market town of Clitheroe, set against a gorgeous rolling hillside backdrop.
Although we’re not a residential studio per se, we have residential partners from quaint townhouses to secluded lodges, riverside cottages and country Inns.
Getting away for a week or two, focusing solely on the music-making process, while enjoying the rural life is the platform we love to give the bands and musicians that visit us.
We have bands come to us from cities all over the region – Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds and Sheffield to name a few.
